Quantum Entanglement: Nobel Prize Awarded for Breakthrough Discovery

“One of the most fascinating predictions of quantum mechanics is entanglement, where widely separated particles can be prepared so that they behave as a single unit,” Ulf Danielsson, secretary of the Nobel Committee for Physics, tells Popular Mechanics. “The groundbreaking experiments of Clauser, Aspect, and Zeilinger show that this mind-boggling phenomenon persists at macroscopic distances, demonstrating the deficiency of our classical intuition.”

An additional note: M. Alain Aspec, one of the three recipients of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics, hails from France and is a research professor in the Saclay Plateau region, near Paris, dubbed the “French Optics Valley.” This region hosts a large variety of universities, R&D centers, and photonics companies, providing excellent conditions for the incubation of ideas and innovations – also home to Gérard Mourou, joint recipient of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics, in the latter part of his career.
