DPSS Lasers Overview
Diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers are a category of optically pumped laser where a diode laser is used as the excitation source to pump a laser crystal. DPSS lasers take advantage of the relatively narrow spectral linewidth of diode lasers in conjunction with their high brightness in order to maximize absorption and therefore increase efficiency. DPSS lasers also have the added benefit of being far more compact than flashlamp pumped lasers and require less maintenance. DPSS lasers can are available with either continuous wave (CW) or pulsed outputs and with powers ranging from less than a milliwatt to over 100 watts. Additionally, through the use of second, third, and fourth harmonic generation they can emit wavelengths from the ultraviolet through the infrared. DPSS lasers are available in with both single-mode and multi-mode beam profiles, and with either free space or fiber coupled outputs. OEM DPSS laser packages and modules are available.
