Overview of OT-39– Er: Glass Q-Switched Laser Transmitter

The OT-39 is a high energy q-switched 1.54 mm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser from Optitask LTD.   This air-cooled, passively q-switched laser is explicitly designed for high energy laser transmission, in the field with an operating temperature range from -40oC to 75oC.  The OT-39 delivers over 3 mJ of pulse energy with a full width half maximum (FWHM) pulse width of 10 ns and a pulse repetition rate of 1 Hz in continuous operation or 5 Hz in burst mode.  With an output beam diameter of <0.8 mm and a beam divergence less than 5 milliradians these lasers are ideally suited for long-range transmission.  The OT-39 also has a built-in photodiode for use as a reference for the starting signal.
