Concepts Research Corporation |
| |
 |
|
Concepts Research Corporation (CRC) is a Wisconsin based corporation with locations in Belgium, Wisconsin and Charlotte, North Carolina.
CRC designs, develops and manufactures microchip lasers. The wavelengths include 473nm, 532nm, 946nm and 1064nm.
355nm and 266nm microchip lasers will be introduced soon!
CRC spent their first five years in design and test work under contract to a small number of firms. Production began in earnest in late 2008. As of the end of 2010, CRC had shipped about 1000 production lasers! These are going to a wide variety of applications. The leading market is lidar, but they are being used for a very wide variety of applications, including micromachining and marking
in those cases very specialized applications!
CRC offers both sophisticated designs for the most challenging military environments or for the highest output energy/average power, to TO-3 cans for their low cost and easy adoption. OEMs and all other customers usually start with an ILM (Integrated Laser Module) which has within it the controller, laser, heat sink
basically everything you need except the power supply. However OEMs usually opt to have the minimum delivered after the initial units. They usually want some of the CRC specific electronics plus the laser head.
The two locations of CRC are specialized. The Wisconsin location does all of the electrical design, some laser builds as well as all electronics production. The optical design and assembly is done largely in North Carolina. The two founders/owners live in these two locations. Steve Hansen, president, is in Wisconsin and Brian Peterson, VP, is in North Carolina. Each has strong ties to his community and thus the somewhat unusual logistical arrangement. It has served them well. The electronics operation is in a low cost rural setting, while the NC operation has key suppliers nearby as well as easy access to the technical experience they require.
Please tell us about your requirements! Most of the lasers we offer have been designed for specific customer requirements.

LDX |
| |
 |
|
LDX Optronics was incorporated in 1990 by Dr Jeffrey A. Morris, its founder and president. LDX is focused on broad stripe multimode laser diodes largely in the esoteric wavelengths with an emphasis on the red and IR wavelengths. LDX offers the widest wavelength range in the industry, with wavelengths available from 622nm - 1.8um.
Many of the esoteric wavelengths are less robust than the more common 808nm laser diodes. Some of these laser diodes are much more heat sensitive. Heat management of these devices is critical for long-life. Skills from our many years of experience are employed in the packaging of these devices. |
|
| |
Packages - LDX packages 10's of thousands of devices per year. Our preferred packages are the c-mount and other open heatsinks, but LDX can produce virtually all of the common single emitter laser diode packages including 9 mm can, TO-3's, the high heat load package (HHL), various fiber coupled packages, and custom packages.
Lifetime - It is our desire to provide customers with performance data so that they can make informed decisions. LDX (through it's sales & marketing partner, RPMC) is pleased to supply lifetest data on any/all of the devices produced. The lifetime of the devices can range from >10,000 hours for the more common 808, 940, 980nm devices to shorter lifetimes for some of the more esoteric wavelength diode lasers.
Facilities - The LDX laboratories and offices are located in Maryville, Tennessee. The 6,250 sq. ft. facility consists of laser diode packaging labs, lifetest and burn-in lab, electronics lab, a small machine shop and offices. LDX is a manufacturer and most of the facility is dedicated to manufacturing.
Wafer Growth: External. Since we are small, there is no plan to bring wafer growth into the company. We work closely with well known facilities for the more common wavelengths and with special partners for the more esoteric wavelengths. Our growth processes and recipes are one of our more valued possessions. |

VueMetrix Inc. |
| |
 |
|
VueMetrix, Inc. was founded by photonics industry veteran Jim Chiu. The company was an outgrowth of a predecessor company Optronic Automation (founded in 2000), a manufacturer of automated test and measurement equipment for semiconductor laser diodes used in the telecommunications industry. |
|
| |
 |
|
In 2003, based on a wealth of expertise gained as a laser diode test and measurement equipment manufacturer, the decision was made to change company's direction and concentrate on the design and manufacture of a new class of laser diode controllers. That same year, the company name was changed to VueMetrix, Inc. |
|
| |
As VueMetrix, the company focused on developing new ways to manage laser diode command and control and it soon introduced the industry's first digital laser diode controller. The company's unique design approach offers customers a higher level of system integration, incorporating the basic laser diode power supply, many safety features as well as control and monitoring functions into one package. The result is a family of OEM-ready laser diode controllers that is easily embedded into a variety of laser diode based systems.
In October 2005, the company needed a larger space that would accommodate its steady growth and moved into a 10,000 square foot facility in Sunnyvale, CA. In the last four years, VueMetrix has introduced a steady stream of innovative products for optimized laser diode control.
Today, we are creating advanced electronics solutions for laser diode systems that will allow our customers to accelerate new product development and get to market quickly. |
